The future security and economic vitality of the nation requires a new focus on educating a multilingual and globally competent workforce. The Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Labor launched the 2007 U.S. Language Summits: Roadmap to Language Excellence project to initiate state-centric action plans to identify and address the need for foreign language skills in the workforce.
